Springtime and 2020 News!

We hope everyone remains healthy while getting enough time outside!

As noted in a previous email, we are exploring our options to make LYF Camp 2020 a reality. While we are in communication with Silver Spur, our program directors have been planning for camp, full steam ahead, and we wanted to share a sneak peak of what’s around the bend!

Camp 2020

Theme: 家庭 (ka-têng) Means Family
Our families are built around some of our closest relationships — it might not always be perfect or easy to care for, but they are an integral support and means of growing in life. We’ll be exploring what it means to be a part of a family, how our familial relationships change and evolve, and what we can do to grow with our relationships!

“This is my family. I found it all on my own. It’s little, and broken, but still good. Yeah — still good.” – Stitch, Lilo and Stitch

Registration and Discount Reminders
With registration still open, we wanted to remind you about our discounts and financial aid programs. We recognize that our camp fees may be a financial barrier to families in our community, so keep an eye on our website for an update to our financial aid application criteria and processes. Additionally, we love it when friends and families grow up through the LYF community together! To encourage people to join LYF Camp together we are offering discounts from camp fees for each additional sibling or first time camper referral.

Community Events & Updates

Census 2020
A new decade and a new US Census! The census is an important civic duty of all Americans as it shapes public policy and funding to our communities. The Taiwanese American community is one of the many “Other Asians” that needs to write in to make sure everyone is fully counted and represented. Every household should have received an invitation to respond online to the 2020 Census at this point. If you haven’t yet, please be a part of the “Write-In Taiwanese” Campaign!

Anti-AAPI Discrimination
With the spread of Covid-19, Asian Americans of all ages and generations report concern of being perceived as the source or a carrier of the disease. Please report all incidents and know that you are not alone as we collectively navigate these trying times. For more on this topic and guidance on how to approach it with your family and friends in the community, please read this piece from Taiwaneseamerican.org.
